LTV labor deal approved amid bankruptcy protections
U S Bankruptcy Judge William Bodoh overruled shareholders objections and approved a new labor agreement for LTV Corp. The Steelworkers will own 20 percent of the company on emerging from bankruptcy, with ratification votes set for August 28. The pact cuts 1300 jobs via attrition and contractor cuts, preserves health benefits, and allows a 140 million dollar borrow from a benefits fund to cover current health costs. LTV, based in Pittsburgh, operates in 17 states, Canada and Britain, with 9000 employees including 3200 in northeast Ohio.
