Oil tanker spills crude into Gulf near Louisiana
Crude oil from the grounded 690 foot Alvenus spills into the Gulf of Mexico as pollution teams race to containment. The tanker carrying 14.7 million gallons ran aground near Calcasieu Pass en route to Lake Charles, with a 115 foot seam cracking along its sides. Coast Guard officials warn of potential environmental disaster while refineries and wildlife refuges watch closely for the spill’s spread toward Rockefeller and Sabine refuges.
