County reports NILE and Prevention efforts amid illness risk
About 150 people may fall seriously ill with the virus and vulnerable groups like children and the elderly are at highest risk. One Ohio death was reported last year with county records showing two prior deaths in 2002 involving a 74 year old man and a 63 year old woman. Mosquito trapping began in May using baited water trays and nets, with interns handling most sampling. The district's roughly 7.6 million dollar budget supports a 70 person staff and about 10 thousand dollars spent on testing this year. Contact Evan Goodenow for more.
