East Carlisle Board Seeks 27500 Bond for School Addition
East Carlisle Board of Education urges approval of a 27500 dollar bond to fund a proposed 50000 dollar school addition with a 22500 dollar PWA grant. The bond would raise the district’s share to 55 percent, with a tax cost of 1.36 mills per thousand valuation. Enrollment rose 20 percent from 221 in 1936 to 266 in 1938, justifying a combined auditorium and gymnasium to free the existing space for classrooms. The district’s bond levy was cut from 4 to 3 mills this year, and the new issue would add 36 cents per thousand to the tax rate, with district valuation at 1,602,000 dollars, up nearly 50,000 in four years.
