WWII vet shares stories with Avon VFW gathering
Avon veteran James Minnich aged 98 met Neely Powell at Miller Nature Preserve and his later connection spurred a VFW event with a storytelling afternoon. He recalled enlisting in 1942, serving on a landings craft in the Pacific, and returning to Lorain in 1946 to support his siblings with his Navy pay. Minnich later became a master millwright at General Motors and raised five children with Patricia. Powell hoped he would reach 100, a goal he memorialized during the visit.
