Reagan extends home care aid to Medina family for disabled son
President Reagan pledged federal support to the Kyle family to care for their four year old son Benji at home. Medicaid extension will cover non medical expenses, enabling the Kyles to keep Benji out of costly institutions. The boy has brain damage and cerebral palsy and has lived at the Hattie Larham Foundation in Mantua since 1981. The Kyles previously faced $25,000 yearly institutional costs and were told they could receive $304.30 monthly in Supplemental Security Income. A White House aide said Medicaid will cover benefits not funded by SSI.
