Governor John J. Gilligan will unveil a state housing commission of about 30 industry representatives to push construction of low and moderate income housing. The panel will craft recommendations for the governor and seek legislative proposals to reduce housing costs, aiming to avoid another housing study.
A new Ohio commission will craft specific recommendations to lower housing costs for low and middle income families. It will review building codes, financing, labor costs and materials, and may promote prefabricated construction and private funded mental towns to reduce expenses. The panel reports to Gov. Gilligan and aligns with urban affairs and HUD goals.
Lorain County unemployment for June rose to 6.6 percent, higher than both Ohio state and U.S. averages. Officials cite the area's durable goods manufacturing base and student-driven labor force changes as key factors. The June state unemployment climbed to 273,000 with a larger labor force of 4.655 million nationwide.
