Old People's Town in Copenhagen Offers Civic Privileges
In Copenhagen the Peoples Town, founded 1819 by Burgomaster Viggo Chipsen, shelters any citizen who becomes a member. Inmates, 358 men and 823 women, live in well furnished buildings near a church with gardens and a cinema. They pay a small income based fee, receive room, board, clothing, laundry and medical care, and retain political rights. Expenses are covered by state and municipality, including a chaplain who is also librarian.
