Fire Aboard Universal Explorer Off Alaska Coast
Coast Guard reports a fire aboard the 617 foot Universal Explorer began in the laundry room near Admiralty Island in Alaska. The blaze, first at 3 11 a m, was extinguished then rekindled around 8 a m. three passengers were injured and evacuated, with one in serious condition. The ship carrying 730 passengers and 290 crew was near Juneau when help arrived from two cutters, a utility boat and a helicopter.
