Artemas Reeve of Elyria and early Ohio pioneer life

Artemas Reeve, a carpenter and joiner, emigrated to Ohio in 1819 with Mr. Ely. The narrative follows his hardship filled journey from West Springfield to Ohio, his marriage to Pamela Morgan, and their trek to the frontier. It covers Beebe and Adams postal ventures, the Beebe stage line from Cleveland to Lower Sandusky, and Elyria’s naming from French provinces. It notes Elyria’s 1815 post office, Ely as postmaster, and the 1822 act creating Lorain County with Elyria as a key site, setting up the county and courts.
