Avon lawyer seeks independent ballot with revenge motive
Lorain County elections board lawyers call Gerald Phillips candidacy driven by personal pique and revenge toward Republicans after failing to gain a judgeship. Phillips sought to replace Judge James Burge, but was kept off the November ballot for insufficient signatures and GOP primary participation. He argues the process was unfair yet says his independent bid aimed to block Democrats, not revenge.
