Nearly $15 Billion VW Emissions Settlement Gets Preliminary OK
U S District Judge Charles Breyer granted preliminary approval to a settlement up to 15 billion dollars in the Volkswagen diesel emissions case. The deal includes up to 10 billion for buybacks and repairs, 5 100 to 10 000 per owner, and 2 7 billion for environmental mitigation plus 2 billion for zero emissions programs. About 475 000 vehicles are eligible. 85 000 higher powered cars are excluded. The judge urged opt outs to weigh environmental gains and allow owners to pursue separate lawsuits. Final ruling expected in October.
