Night Anglers Seek Channel Catfish in Ohio Summers
Hot summer heat drives anglers to shoreline spots at night to fish channel catfish using worms shrimp liver and stink bait. The Ohio Wildlife Division stocks over 100 000 yearling channel cats yearly at sites statewide including the Ohio State Fair pond. The state record channel catfish weighed 30 pounds and measured 37 inches, caught July 26 1987 at Ferguson Reservoir near Lima. Flathead catfish known as shovel head reach 5 to 15 pounds and even 70 pounds, with a 76 pound 8 ounce record at Clendening Lake on July 28 1979.
