Committee Opposes Federal Slum Clearance in Elyria
A citizens committee led by Mayor Joseph Q. Petro's group advised against a federal housing slum clearance project in Elyria. They argued low income families would not qualify as tenants under federal rules, citing a WPA worker earning 57 dollars a month and rents that would exceed their ability to pay. The report suggested private building or readjusted rentals as alternatives and noted Elyria lacks a true slum area. The mayor called the report insightful but not conclusive.
