Airlines raise fares as 2011 tax holiday ends
Airlines quickly increased ticket prices after federal taxes on air travel expired over the weekend as Congress did not extend FAA funding. The windfall could persist if stalemate continues, with about 200 million dollars a week in taxes fading and fuel costs higher than last year. Alaska, Hawaiian and Spirit had not raised fares by midday Monday.

The Pew Research Center analysis of 2009 Census data finds whites hold about 20 times the net worth of blacks and 18 times that of Hispanics. It attributes the spread to stock market rebound and corporate savings favoring whites while minority wealth shrank after housing losses and high unemployment.
