Treasury mailings began Friday sending up to 360 per child to over 95 million mid dle income households. Eligible parents include those who qualified in 2002 and families with a first child in 2003 must wait until spring to claim refunds.
Westlake police say a husband William Mozingo shot his wife Maureen Mozingo then killed himself in a parking lot at 31011 Viking Parkway. A note found on William directed officers to their home where a second note was signed by both victims. The motive remains unclear. Maureen was in poor health. The coroner seized the car, gun, and bodies for investigation.
Four teenage girls testified that sexual assaults occurred in hidden stairwells and empty bathrooms as the 17-year-old Lorain Admiral King High School student faces four counts of rape, seven counts each of kidnapping and gross sexual imposition, and three counts of sexual imposition. The defense urged that the testimony would be sensationalized, while prosecutors described a pattern of abuse by a trusted friend.
In Columbus, defense maneuvers and court leniency delayed Richard Cooey’s execution for the 1986 rape and murder of two University of Akron students. The stay followed a new attorney’s need for time to study the case, with the Ohio Supreme Court to set a new date after federal lifts. Mary Ann Hackenberg, mother of Dawn McCreery, blamed Akron attorney Margery Koosed and anti death penalty activist supporters for the delay.

Kevin Jones was charged as an accessory while a 16 year old daughter faced conspiracy charges. The family faced bleak finances and bankruptcy filings amid years of missed mortgage payments.
