Wind shear gear at New Orleans questioned after crash
UPI reports wind shear detectors at the airport often broke down and were targets of vandalism. Although one unit was operational during the July 9 thunderstorm crash that killed 154, critics blamed poor placement and maintenance. FAA plans to set onboard detection specs. few airports have modern wind-shear devices.
