Amused musings on politics and press in 1930s America
A commentator ventriloquizes over Roosevelt's court packing dispute, the choice of Senate majority leader Alben Barkley, and NLRB actions in Detroit. The piece also skewers Governor Earle’s presidential talk and defends press accuracy while condemning NLRB overreach in subpoenas. The tone is caustic and polemical about labor boards and political theater.

Boards to rule by fiat threaten American liberty
An unsigned opinion laments the growth of quasi judicial boards within the federal system. It argues these bodies wield near unlimited power, undermine impartial judgment, and risk dictatorship by boards unless personnel are impartial, cautious, and intelligent.

Good Health: Foods and Digestion In Plain Talk
Dr Claud North Chrisman says no fixed rule makes foods inherently acidic or harmful. Individual digestion varies and tolerance shifts with inflammation or systemic issues. He notes flexible eating and shares a personal example of strawberries with bananas being tolerated by a guest.
Food Not Shifting Acid Balance Says Tobey
Dr James A Tobey of a large industrial plant argues there is no scientific proof that any single food or food mix can significantly alter the acid base balance in a normal person. He classifies acidosis as a health symptom only in certain illnesses and notes diet alone cannot control such conditions.

Exaggerated claims on food effects in blood chemistry
Diet advice from Dr Tobey notes the impact of foods on acid base balance is greatly overstated. Foods are classifyable as acid forming base forming or neutral and relative values rely on chemical equivalents. True acidosis is a symptom not a disease and the body remains stable as a compensatory mechanism under varying conditions.
