Man Dies at Tube Plant in Lorain

Robert J. Wuensch 36 of Grafton died at the National Tube Company plant in Lorain after being crushed between a crane and a girder. He was an electrical maintenance man and survived by his wife Beatrice and five children. Funeral services are scheduled for 9 am Thursday at Immaculate Conception Church, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Four People Hurt as Two-Car Crash Shocks Birmingham

In Birmingham at 4 p m yesterday a two car collision left three women and a man shaken and one woman with an arm injury. Elmer Portman of Gore Orphanage road Henrietta parked a car in front of Purcell Hardware and was struck when a second car from Massachusetts hit the rear amid heavy rain. State Highway Patrol from Bellevue investigated and travelers were taken to the train to continue their journey.

Congress orders rush funds for Korean war buildup

Congress accelerated approval of President Truman's request for 10.9 billion dollars and 600000 troops to support Korea. The plan would expand the Army Navy and Air Force to about 2.1 million, boost aircraft purchases, build ships, and prepare existing ships for sea. Officials say Korea receives first priority and total defense outlays may total around 24 billion for the year ending July 1. The Navy and Marines would gain the largest manpower increase.

Oberlin To Vote On Parking Meter Referendum

Oberlin villagers will vote in November on installing parking meters after a referendum request filed by village clerk H W Smith and supported by 340 signers. Oberlin Alumnus Nominated by Truman for Foreign Service

President Truman has nominated Ernest H. Fisk, Oberlin College alumnus, to be a foreign service officer class three in the State Department. Fisk, who graduated in 1928, recently returned from India where he served in Public Affairs for the American Embassy in Delhi. He and his wife have been in Washington since June. Fisk previously edited the College Review at Oberlin and held editorial and reporting posts at Cleveland News and Portsmouth Times before leading the East Liverpool Review until 1944. He served in the War Information Office and was sent to France. He is married to Mary Wright, daughter of Mrs. Nellie Wright of 124 Woodland Avenue.
