Avon Lake district seeks five year operating levies this fall
Avon Lake voters will decide in November on a five year emergency operating levy option. The board sent two resolutions to the county auditor to set millage for a $5 million per year measure or a $7.5 million per year measure. Each option aims to bridge a projected deficit amid state funding losses and property devaluation, with millage estimated near 6 and 9 mills respectively. The district operates a $34 million budget, relies heavily on local funding, and faces potential $2.8 million in cuts by 2014 15 if no new revenue is approved. The board meets August 7 to choose which levy to place on the ballot.
