Death ruled self-inflicted in Lorain man’s case
Lorain County Coroner Dr. William Kishman ruled the Sunday death of 59 year old Robert Earl as apparent death by own action. Earl died instantaneously from a gunshot wound to the heart after a personal battle to stop attacks on women. The man known as Jackson spoke of ethical motives and allowed that he planned to die rather than be caught. He described preparing a list of victims since August 1977 and contemplated offering compensation. He faces a second trial due to a 1978 change in Ohio insanity defense law shifting burden of proof to the defense.
