Burglars Enter Two Homes While Victims Slept
Intruders crept into the east and south side homes of two sleeping women over the weekend. In Elyria, Jewell O. Jenkins awoke to an intruder tripping near her bed and fleeing with a .32 revolver, three wrist watches, and rummaged items. In the Purdue Avenue home of Carolyn Staudt, burglars took a purse with cash and credit cards after entering during the night.

Egypt fires on two Israeli planes near Suez Canal
Egyptian surface to air missiles were fired toward two Israeli aircraft east of the Suez Canal during a routine patrol. Both planes returned to base unharmed. Egyptian spokesmen said missiles were fired from their side at 3:45 p.m. local.

Hope for Nine Trapped Miners Continues Rescue Drilling
In Blackville West Virginia rescue teams resumed a five inch bore hole near the fire zone hoping to reach nine miners trapped since Saturday. Officials reported temperatures around 2500 to 3000 degrees and warned conditions were not favorable. Over 100 rescue workers in 14 teams remain on site as microphones and geophones monitor for signs of life.

Heat relief sweeps area as storm knocks out power
