Hollywood Two Reel Laughs Demand Comedy Boom
Hollywood columnist Jimmie Fiddler laments the decline of genuine comedy in films. He condemns modern epics and calls for a Mack Sennett style return to simple, uproarious humor with pratfalls and carefree absurdity. He recalls Lloyd Hamilton, Snub Pollard, Fatty Arbuckle, and Laurel and Hardy as benchmarks, and notes actors Billy and Bobby Mauch's pranks during The Prince and the Pauper production. He also mentions a Warner Brothers set encounter with Olivia de Havilland.
