Cottages Burn in Sheffield Lake Fire

Fires of unknown origin destroyed two abandoned cottages in Sheffield Lake within minutes of each other. The Lincoln Bhd and Oster Rd corner property and the 735 Hollywood Ave site, next to Safety Director William Kennedy’s home, required a full fire department response. Avon Lake aided by boosting water pressure as no hydrants exist in Hollywood Ave. Sheffield fire units joined under a reciprocal agreement and new emergency communication system. A Nickel Plate Road freight train delayed response by ten minutes, but crews arrived rapidly once alerted.
