Aztec blast suit documents sought in multimillion action
Attorneys for about 7,400 residents sued Aztec Catalyst Co. over the 1993 Garden Street blasts. Behind closed doors, lawyers discussed turning over health and safety records and plant-improvement documents after two explosions. Settlement talks could begin once document production is resolved. The blasts forced about 5,000 evacuations and injured dozens, with testimony possible from area residents if the case goes to trial. Gary and Aztec’s counsel offered no new settlement details, but Gary indicated progress toward resolution and a previously raised $2 million offer could yield about $500 per claimant.
