Ironsides Sails Again On Historic Constitution Cruise
The USS Constitution, oldest commissioned warship afloat, sailed from Marblehead for a 200th birthday cruise with 100,000 spectators aboard and ashore. Crew in dress whites hoisted six sails, recreating the 204-foot ship’s battle configuration as Walter Cronkite and other dignitaries watched. A 21-gun salute marked the moment.
