Swede shines at US Open with 67 open round

Liselotte Neumann of Finspang Sweden opened the U S Open with a 4 under 67 at Baltimore Country Club Five Farms, setting the lowest first round score in the event and grabbing a two stroke lead over JoAnne Carner and Sally Quinlan. Neumann, 22, joins a small group of Swedish women on tour and said golf has grown quickly at home while facing weather delays that halted play for 43 minutes. She earned LPGA privileges after a fourth place at Q school in October and said she came to compete against the top players. In Connecticut, Roger Maltbie shot a 7 under 64 to lead the Sammy Davis Jr Greater Hartford Open after round one.
