U S planes strike back at attackers in North Vietnam
American fighter bombers hit antiaircraft guns inside North Vietnam sixty five miles from the border after a North Vietnamese gunner fire on an unarmed U S reconnaissance jet. An unidentified American, believed to be a serviceman, tried to hijack an Air Vietnam DC 4 to Hong Kong at Saigon’s Tan Son Nhut airport. He threatened crew with two knives, surrendered after a two hour stand off. Six crewmen wounded, eight enemies dead. Passengers were allowed to disembark. The hijacker had boarded at Pleiku with 63 passengers. Two helicopters were shot down during attempted reinforcements. Crash Kills 5 Month Old in Lorain County Collision
A 5 month old girl, Barbara Jean Billington of Lorain, died after a collision with a lumber truck on Oberlin Road and Route 113 west of Elyria. Her parents James and Kathy Billington were injured but survived.
