Six Die After Plane Crashes Into Cleveland Industrial Park
At Cleveland Hopkins International Airport a twin engine propeller plane crashed into an industrial park killing six aboard while fire raged through walls and doors. Workers at Avery Label Hilti Fastening Systems and other nearby buildings evacuated as flames and explosions shook the area. Last ditch Stanadyne shutdown talks aim to avert partial layoff
A last minute meeting between Stanadyne Corp officials and United Auto Workers Local 161 advisers was convened to avert a threatened partial shutdown at the Woodland Avenue plant amid a long stalemate. Moen Division head Robert Stuart said mediator Irv Dolsky would review facts before a company deadline to decide on a possible shutdown. The union has rejected wage and benefit concessions as about 200 jobs have already been lost and more cuts loom. Stuart said no new proposals would be offered and the deadline would not be extended. Angelo Vasi declined comment on union plans for the talks. The meeting was to start at am.
