France Walks From Baruch Plan At UN Meeting
The French delegation rejected the Baruch plan for controlled atomic development and urged a fresh start in disarmament talks. Delegates in New York prepared for a full debate as the U.N. General Assembly set to convene on September 21, amid Russian opposition and Allied divisions over sovereignty and safeguards. The London subcommittee had spent two months in fruitless talks, while the U.N. endorses a development agency to own and manage atomic resources and production from source to market.
