Russia May Risk War Over Berlin Crisis Says Officials
American officials say Moscow may be prepared to risk war this year to maintain its European position. Gen. Lucius D. Clay and Ambassador Robert Murphy plan talks in Washington as the administration weighs new preparedness steps and a possible call to Congress for measures. The Berlin blockade and Western response, tied to the Marshall Plan and Cominform tensions, amplify fears of a broader conflict while U.S. policy remains to seek a peaceful solution and deter Soviet aggression.
