Amuse 41 Lafolet Cinbsseting and Musical Art Annual event schedule announced. June 22 includes Organ Guild at werils with performances and community gatherings.
Mr and Mrs W. J. Biggs of Middle Avenue observed their fiftieth wedding anniversary on a Saturday filled with calls and flowers. Married June 19 1870 in Elyria the couple has lived in the city for decades with daughter Louise a teacher and son Hardy a civil engineer joining in the celebration.
Downtown Lorain County Electric window hosts a floral display by the Home Garden Association. Visitors admired bouquets and vases as a crowd blocked traffic, with numerous donors and prize winners named among the contributing gardeners and arrangers.
The Memorial Hospital Training School for Nurses senior class held a picnic at Century Park by the lake shore. Attending were Misses Wise Davis Leidhelzer Sherod Schuster Gilder Worcester Williams Marshall with chaperones Misses Bradley Paterson Soutar. They enjoyed a formal supper and various outdoor games in a festive social outing.
Arthur Todd, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Todd, left Elyria High School for newspaper work, served in the Y M C A, then became city editor of the Rockford Morning Star. As a reporter he covered the Chicago Republican convention with Bryan and Ring Lardner in the press box. He is receiving congratulatory letters on his success. Church at Home reception and reunion planned for next Thursday, a final mid week meeting before vacation, with invites to new adult members and social features, light refreshments, and prayers.
The YWCA reports a busy period with a successful County Fair in the Gym raising funds for the summer conference. The Grade School Girl Reserves hosted a Mother Daughter Banquet and staged Alice in Wonderland. The Physical Education Department drew a full crowd and added new members. Summer conferences in Ohio are planned with the Industrial and Girls Work secretaries attending, and a forthcoming summer program including outdoor clubs, hikes, tennis, baseball, picnics, a two pageant and a two week camp.
EB Allen reports from Columbus on the Ohio Society for Crippled Children meeting where R C Burton of Zanesville offered a large farm and mansion to the society. The gift, located near Zanesville and accessible to three railroads, promises rapid expansion of convalescent care in the region.
A narrator recalls a chaotic early morning after attending a Greenwich Village dance. They describe costumes wild attendees including Bobby Edwards and Sonia, Adele, Nessa in pale green tulle, and meets celebrities like Fern Forrester and Frankly, with talk of bohemian life and modern movements. Miss Jean Gessner hosted a Friday evening bluebird party as a prenuptial courtesy for Miss Thelma Boylan. The upcoming marriage to Richard Gray is set for this week.
Dr. James N. Reese of Cleveland attends the National Medical convention in session at Hotel Statler. Social visits include Mrs. Ellen Learn and Miss Agnes Jouma of Grand Rapids. Other locals travel for commencements and lectures at Ohio State University and Kent State Normal School.
Miss Flora Houston and Miss Mildred Wharton of Denmark Iowa visited Mr and Mrs F L Geldmacher in Columbus and Mr and Mrs George A Day on Gulf Street Sunday. Prof Leverett is conducting a geological survey of Cuyahoga county for the government. Hon and Mrs P W Snyder of Hollidaysburg Pa will stay with Mr and Mrs J G Wherry for several days arriving this evening from Chicago where Mr Snyder attended the Republican National convention.
A large crowd attended the annual Memorial service of Hlyria Lodge No. 1031 O O F in this city with guests from Lorain Canton S150 Daughters of Rebekah. John Strohl opened the program. Ralph Reinhart gave the invocation and C M Williams delivered the deceased members eulogy. Mrs Vora Knapp spoke on the Rebekahs. The program included three addresses by Mayor A R Jones, A H Piece of Wellington, and Frank Garrett of Dayton.
Between showers the Odd Fellows and Canton Lorain escorted flowers to the cemetery and placed bouquets on 200 graves of members dating from August 2, 1856. Recent decedents listed include Carl G. Friday Burt Lehman Marion Thompson Walt er Crofoot Harman Albright and the Rebekahs Mrs Alice Opfer Mrs Matilda Berg and Mrs Gustava Baxter. Flags marked graves in forenoon with flowers set in afternoon. Credit given to arrangements committee Mason D Smith Bruce Amidon and Clarence Vincent.
London reports Italian troops withdrawn from Anti gati Colcigno and the entire Montenegro coast. Serbian forces immediately occupy the evacuated districts. The presence of foreign troops in Montenegro is reduced to zero.
Dr Carl Cooper, a Methodist missionary on furlough, told a Sunday evening audience at the local Methodist Episcopal Church that idol worship in China shows a marked revival in certain areas. Slides illustrated Central China’s sacred sites where he has worked for 39 years. He said he has visited more sacred places than any other man.
The speaker notes Confucianism is officially termed a state ethics rather than a religion. The passage quips on arranged marriage and social wit as Miss Fawn Lippinent laments cold blooded wife selection while a suitor learns his trade through practice.
Mr. L J Amsdell of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co represents them in a new stock sale. He can be seen at the Andwar Hotel any evening and Saturday morning of this week.
