South Africa to allow coloured vote for first time
Johannesburg reports that South Africa will let coloured people vote in September for the first time since 1956. The 40 elected members will join 20 state-appointed members on a coloured representative council with limited powers, mainly controlled by the white parliament. The piece discusses the status, education, and employment issues facing coloureds and the political tensions including the Labor party opposition and security branch scrutiny.
