Brown seeks tougher layoff notice rules for workers
U S Sen Sherrod Brown backs a bill to broaden and extend WARN Act protections. The proposal would require notice for 100 or more layoffs, raise the notice period to 90 days, and increase penalties. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama co sponsor the bill with Brown while John Edwards backs reform. The current law covers 500 or more layoffs with 60 days notice, prompting criticism of loopholes and poor enforcement.
