Blaze destroys century old barn near Oberlin
Five fire departments battled a fast spreading blaze that consumed a 100 year old barn and adjacent shed on Route 20 owned by Rick and Ann Murphy. No injuries or livestock. Four tankers delivered about 25,000 gallons of water over four hours as Route 20 was briefly closed. Damaged items included dry wood and craft materials from Arree's Studio of Decorative Art. Police and fire officials investigate cause.

Drunk driver crash injures two officers in Lorain chase
Gary L. McWhorter, 49, of North Canton, fled from Avon officers at speeds over 100 mph and crashed into a sheriff deputy cruiser near East 28th Street in Lorain County. McWhorter and two officers were injured. he was flown to MetroHealth and later jailed on felony fleeing drunken driving and reckless operation charges. Deputy Daniel Ashdown and an Avon officer suffered minor injuries. McWhorter faces warrants for robbery and drug charges in Stark County.

State workers plan picket at North Coast Correctional Facility
