Timidity mars county battle of the budget
Lorain County officials battle a tight budget as March cuts from 13.83 million to 13.13 million aim to close a 470,000 deficit. Sheriff Mertz warns of mass deputy layoffs and jail takeover by federal authorities, while critics say across the board cuts ignore department needs. Authority figures fault the commissioners for inattention and overreliance on county administrator Dellisanti.
