Dangerous Humboldt squid swarm off San Diego coast
Thousands of jumbo Humboldt squid up to 5 feet and 100 pounds have inundated shallow San Diego waters. Divers report tentacles wrapping masks and grabbing gear while some swim with caution and others avoid the surf. Local divers recall the species native to Mexican waters nicknamed red devils.

Teen youngest to sail alone around world
Zac Sunderland, 17, became the youngest person to sail solo around the globe, docking in Marina del Rey after a 28,000 mile voyage aboard his 36 foot Intrepid. He left at 16 on June 14, 2008, faced pirates and storms, and credited sleep deprivation and boat troubles as major challenges.
