Court Packing As Means Not End, Douglas Johnson Warns
In a July 17 1937 letter to the editor Douglas Johnson former advisor to Woodrow Wilson argues the Senate faces a pivotal choice over the court packing bill. He contends the proposal serves a broader drive toward bureaucratic control centered in Washington and a Supreme Court aligned with the executive, urging citizens to press Senators regardless of party. He warns against lethargy and stresses defending democratic government against consolidation of power.
