Readers submitted culinary favorites with two prize winners and several honorable mentions. Recipes include Dried Beef Sandwiches with ground dried beef and cream cheese, Open Faced Hearts and Diamonds with mushroom spread, Flower sandwich with almond petals, Black-Eyed Susan bread rings, and a multi-layer Sandwich Loaf, credited to local residents.
Dissolve gelatin in hot water then add to cold water lemon juice and tabasco. Chill until thickened. Remove corned beef slice into 1 2 inch pieces. Layer aspic and beef in a mold and chill. Garden salad idea served from a wooden bowl with garlic rubbed on the bowl and lettuce garnish. Toss vegetables with French or Spanish dressing and finish with shredded lettuce hearts.

One winner gains a dollar plus Coca Cola, the other a dollar and a case of twelve Par-T-Pak beverages from Nehi Bottling Co. The winning shrimp sandwich recipe includes cocktail sauce, buttered bread spokes, tomato wedges, shrimp, lettuce, and deviled eggs, with a note praising its ease for busy mothers.
