Nose fly threatens Michigan deer hunting this fall
A small fly named Cephenomyia phobifer endangers deer in Michigan by infesting the nasal passages. Dr. Dan R. Coburn of the Michigan State Department of Agriculture warns the insect weakens deer defenses and can cause death, potentially reducing the deer population this season. The life cycle spans spring to summer with eggs laid in the nose, larvae developing through winter, and adults emerging the following summer.
