Cop chase ends in death Amherst Ohio crash claims Vermilion man

A 21 year old Vermilion man died early Wednesday after trying to outrun Amherst police. Eric O Neal sped past a flashing light stop sign at Middle Ridge Road and Elyria Avenue, ran a three way intersection, and crashed after a long chase. Officer Walter Gould pursued with lights and siren. The car veered off pavement, cleared bushes, and stopped at Middle Ridge Rice and Quarry roads. Speed details were not released.

Flooding of Wilkes Villa prompts repair efforts in Elyria

A summer storm dumped about eight tenths of an inch of rain in parts of Lorain County causing knee to waist deep flooding at Wilkes Villa in Elyria. Residents reported high water on streets as Lorain Metropolitan Housing Authority sent maintenance crews to fix the problem.

After nine hours of deliberation, jurors were urged by Common Pleas Judge Edward Zaleski to consider alternate viewpoints as they seek a verdict in the case of Elyria patrolman Todd Zack accused of sexually molesting women in his custody.
