Teen’s fatal crash linked to driver distraction on Indian Hollow Road
An 18 year old Grafton girl Michelle D Brannon was killed when her 1988 Dodge Dakota veered off Indian Hollow Road struck a culvert and rolled over after she reportedly began putting on a pullover shirt while driving. She died later at Elyria Memorial Hospital from head injuries. The crash occurred shortly after 11 30 a m. on a Friday. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Blackburn Fulton Funeral Home in Grafton.

Firefighters quench rekindling at paper plant blaze
Elyria firefighters returned to the Elyria Paper and Salvage Co. on Oberlin Road Friday after a resident reported smoke from Thursday's $1 million blaze. Three outsiders were treated for smoke inhalation and heat exhaustion as 135 firefighters from 15 departments battled high heat, wind, and low water pressure. Investigators blame sparks from a cutting torch at the paper company for the original fire and forced evacuations at a nearby mobile home park while water had to be hauled in from nearby towns.

Elyria Couple Among Four Indicted in Fake Will Scam
Four people are indicted in a Lakewood case alleging a phony will scheme to steal about 1 million from a 91 year old Lakewood woman. Elyria residents Dale A. Schneider and Beverly Schneider arraigned and free on bond. Richard G. Eberling and Oscar Buford Henderson waived extradition from Tennessee and returned to Ohio to face charges. Both men held in Cuyahoga County Jail on 100000 dollar bonds. Indictment dated July 5. Arrests occurred Tuesday by Lakewood authorities.

An eight year old Sheffield Lake boy, Joseph Krogg, died after four hours trapped in a freezer while trying to retrieve popsicles. He had no heartbeat and a body temperature of 70 degrees. He died at 4:02 p.m. Friday at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital after life support and warming efforts. Autopsy scheduled for 7:30 a.m. today. Neighbors described the family as close-knit and caring.
