Builder Gets New Chance To Testify

Senate Banking committee offered William J. Levitt a fresh chance to testify on whether a 5.15 million windfall from selling 4 028 Levittown dwellings was real profit or windfall. Levitt argued the profits arose under a separate law section for postwar housing, while Chairman Capehart pressed that the gain resembled windfalls in FHA scandals. The session also reviewed Norman Winston and Clint Murchison Jr. profits from defense housing and a BaySide group’s 428 500 on 6 196 00 FHA loans for Oakland Gardens. House Senate conferees moved to require FHA mortgage insurance reflect actual costs, not estimates.
