Brandan Ryan, 41, of Lorain, received 24 to 28 years in prison after pleading guilty to 22 felonies for a chase that ended in a two car crash on Aug. 22, 2024, near Elyria. Two people died and a third was severely injured. one victim survived. The judge noted mandatory time and lifelong license suspension.
Timothy and Sara Sherman faced tragedy when a kitchen fire at their 8248 Root Road home killed six pet dogs including a poodle mix therapy pair. Firefighters found heavy smoke at 11:20 p.m. Saturday with no injuries to residents or responders. Investigators suspect the stove origin as the cause. Local theater owners since 1965, the Shermans announced devastation and started a GoFundMe raising over $2,000 by Monday evening.
Christy Lee Plas, 43, of LaGrange Township, pleaded guilty to a single misdemeanor theft for stealing about $12,000 from Keystone Elementary PTA between 2018 and 2020. Judge Chris Cook imposed the maximum 180 days but suspended 90 days, with jail if she fails to comply, and gave a chance at early release for good behavior. The case involved a breach of trust as she held a position of authority within the PTA.
Amherst Rotary Club ended its 88 year tenure on Monday with a final celebration at Sandstone Village Grange Hall. President Jeri Leigh Liss said the club kept to its service above self motto, hosting wine tastings for Amherst Schools and medical equipment drives while maintaining Rotary Park downtown.
