Tax surcharge a growing problem for middle class
Washington AP reports an obscure tax aimed at the wealthy, the alternative minimum tax, will reach about one third of taxpayers by 2010 and affect 97 percent of married couples with two or more children earning 75 000 to 100 000. Leonard Burman of the Tax Policy Center calls repeal the best fix despite a projected 1.5 trillion dollar federal drain through 2013 if repealed this year.
