Parachute snags but luck holds for area skydiver
Avon resident Floyd Totten, 49, of Brunswick, suffered a broken leg and rib injuries when his parachute snagged during a jump. He landed in a field near Tom’s Country Place after his main canopy freed. Totten was taken to Elyria Memorial Hospital in fair condition. Five years earlier, he escaped a similar scare when his reserve parachute deployed during a landing at a church event.

Post Office bids come in for Elyria facility
The Landig and Wykoff plan for the Elyria post office drew twelve bids. Carbone Construction Co. of Cleveland topped the list at 1 338 850 with Elmer Hume Inc Amherst second at 1 341 800 and Gene Resar Inc Elyria third at 1 360 116. The architect’s estimate was 1 425 000. The 26 000 square foot building will include a driveway and 175 car parking and must be finished within 360 days after award. The old post office at East Broad and East Avenue may become a municipal court or city offices and will be sold after the new building is completed.
