Ohio crop harvests to fall short of 1953 levels
Ohio predicted total crop harvest for the year reaches 10,591,000 acres, down about two percent from 1953’s 10,772,000. Wheat area drops 26 percent to 1,764,000 acres, corn up four percent to 3,672,000, oats up seven percent to 1,208,000, with potatoes soybeans sugar beets barley tobacco and cigar filler crops listed. Fruit crops broadly rise, milk output climbs to a June peak of 598 million pounds, while June egg production is estimated at 238 million, about three percent below last year.
