Boake Carter on Government, Corporations and Panama Rail Road
The piece cites Boake Carter denouncing large closely held firms avoiding taxes and cites President Roosevelt on corporate reserves. It contrasts Panama Railroad Company as government owned since 1904 with private monopoly concerns, arguing the probe should start there. Elyrian Demonstrates Organic Matter Use In Poor Soil
A garden demonstration at 427 Ninth Street by H. Paulkner showcases introducing large amounts of organic matter into very poor soil. Attendees include Lorain County ex-agent Horton Alger, Ohio agronomist R. H. Morrish, and other regional experts. Faulkner explains capillarity and the benefits of maintaining soil surface compactness, arguing that deep plowing disrupts natural water movement and soil structure, hindering crop moisture access.

Panama Rail monopoly and politics of competition
The piece argues the Panama Railroad Company maintains a government backed monopoly from New York to the Isthmus, resisting private competition. It contrasts enforcement of anti monopoly laws with the railroad’s immunity and notes looming investigations into Hollywood and milk markets as political theater. It references Kennedy and Mahoney and criticizes reform efforts as political smoke screens.
