The August American Journal of Preventive Medicine reports a 199 mile drop from 90 to 48 percent of near school children who walk or bike. Data from 1969 to 2004 shows urban and suburban shifts, more cars, safety concerns, and sidewalk gaps reducing active commuting for kids.
