Broken sewer pipe causes hole in Elyria sidewalk
A broken sewer line near Court and Broad streets created a five foot deep hole beside Elyria Savings and Trust Bank. City crews will dig up Broad Street and nearby sidewalk Tuesday to repair the sewer and backfill the gap while assessing the full extent. Assistant City Engineer John Hart cited a cracked combined sewer and recent heavy rains as factors. Bank workers alerted officials after bricks fell away exposing soil beneath. Traffic on Broad Street may be blocked during the repair.
